Have you ever wondered, what is the history and origin of resort Spa, which offers beauty treatment? Well, Spa word is originated from one of the touristic town of Belgium, located in Wallonia region. Spa is famous for its several natural mineral springs, Formula 1 race track, hiking and skiing. Spa mineral water is also produced in this town and is exported worldwide.
A logo of mineral water-Spa is found at the entrance of city at a round about.
We managed to find a parking space after taking two rounds around the centre. We began our exploration from tourist office, with an idea of collecting a map. The tourist office also holds different exhibition from time to time.
Most importantly the tourist office has public access to spring water, costing 1 euro/person.
Naturally sparkling water, full of mineral salts and rich in iron, flows for about 21,000 litres per day. The water from spring has sulphurous taste and provides healing properties, especially recommended for respiratory disorders. It is also said to cure infertility. Until 18th century the people used to drink spring water as a therapy, and at present people prefer bath therapy (balneotherapy), more famous for wellness and relaxation.
After drinking a cup of spring water we walked to an old church of, Saint Remacle, built in 1880s in German Romanesque style.
A very famous old Cassino can be found at the centre of the city. In front of the Cassino there is an elevator to the hilltop, which is the entrance of Thermes de spa, balneotherapy. The website boasts to have very good bathing, sauna and other wellness facilities with panoramic views of the town.
We took a walk in the beautiful park located 20 metres from the elevator. There is also an old wind mill miniature in the park.
We spend nearly 4 hours in the town with our little one. Very historic and scenic place and you can cover most of the attractions by foot within the city.
Beautiful and informative…I can see the SPA experience
